What it's like
The pleasure grounds sit on a point of the Georges River beside Como station, with lawns, shade trees and river views. Tidal baths on the river sit below the swimming complex, which is free and open in summer.
The grounds date from the 1880s or 1890s, when the railway brought day-trippers from the city to swim, picnic and hire boats on the river.
When to go
Summer, when the swimming complex is open. Avoid river swimming for a few days after heavy rain.
Getting there and facilities
Como station is next to the grounds. There are picnic areas and the summer swimming complex.
