What it's like

The pool is set on the rock platform below the headland at the southern end of the beach. An old internal wall splits it into two parts: a full 50 m lap pool with lane markings, and a broad, shallow area where small children can splash safely. Swell regularly breaks over the outer wall, which keeps the water fresh but can make the far lanes choppy on a big day.

It is one of the older pools on the peninsula. Locals and the surf club pushed for it in the mid-1920s, and it was reshaped in 1966 to give an Olympic-length 50 m pool for competition, with the wading pool alongside.

When to go

Early mornings are for lap swimmers; families arrive mid-morning. Council publishes a dated cleaning roster, and the pool is out of use for several hours either side of each cleaning slot, so check before you go. Calm, small-swell days give the flattest water.

Getting there and facilities

The pool is at the southern end of Curl Curl Beach. There are toilets and showers, and parking nearby, which fills early on summer weekends.

Good to know

There are no lifeguards at the pool itself. Dogs are not allowed in the pool. The rocks around the edge are slippery, especially at low tide.
