What it's like
The Green Pool is a second, smaller quarry hole cut into the same headland as the Blue Pool. It gets its colour from the plants and algae around its edges and from the shade of the rock walls. The water is deep straight away, more than 2 m from the edge, so it is a swim for confident swimmers rather than a paddle. It is usually quieter than the Blue Pool.
Both pools are left from quarrying in the 1890s, when stone was cut here for the Clarence River breakwalls.
When to go
Mornings and weekdays are quietest. Blue-green algae can close it in warm weather; signs go up on site when that happens.
Getting there and facilities
Park at the day car park at the end of The Crescent, Angourie, walk the paved path to the Blue Pool, then follow the sandy track about 100 m further. Toilets are at the car park only.
Good to know
There are no lifeguards and no shallow end. Do not jump or dive: there are rock ledges under the surface, and a person reportedly died here after a jump in 2024. No dogs, fires or glass.
